No race weekend

But that's okay.  I just signed up for a race every weekend in February and am contemplating some additional back-to-back races that month.  So, I will just work some overtime so that I can pay off this new laptop (old one committed suicide.  assisted suicide).

Hot, no race weekend

Guess what? It is still hot here. I think today is the 42nd 100+ degree day of the year. At least I have not had to mow all Summer, since the grass is dead!

As is typical for August, especially a potentially hottest-August-ever, there is no race this weekend. I am going to enjoy a First Friday cruiser bike ride through downtown tonight - stopping along the route for refreshments. And, tomorrow morning, Bernice and I are running a 14 mile training run. And then I will likely decide to amputate my 'turf toe!'

So, in lieu of ugly race pics, I present "The Cold Front"

See? There where it falls to double digits? Yay!

Next up

It should be a fun weekend, as soon as I can get through the workweek. First up, Friday night, is The Puppet:
This is a fundraiser/donor signup for The Marrow Match put on by an amazing guy (seriously - film actor, triathlete, ballerina, children's book author - he can even get hit by a car while riding his bike and sustain only minor injuries. It's like that dos equis commercial - he is the most interesting man in the world).

Then, Saturday is the Flag Day 5k/10k at McAllister Park. I will be running the 10k so that I get more distance for every registration dollar I spent. At least it will be a well-shaded run, because it will be HOT.

Sunday morning is A Walk in the Park at Six Flags Fiesta Texas. This ~2 mile walk benefits Cure Kids Cancer. I will be walking on Conor Lint's team. He was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor at 3 and continues to survive at age 5 and hope for the future.

And then I will try to catch up on sleep.

Running into the weekend

Ah, almost the weekend. After work, I'm getting a massage to try to loosen my hip/piriformis area before the weekend. Tomorrow is the NOCC/Pureology Break the Silence on ovarian cancer 5k. Whew, what a name. A group from the Brak Pak is running for one couple's mom/mother-in-law, who is still in the hospital recovering from surgical complications secondary to ovarian cancer. I'll be taking it slow - I really shouldn't be trying any 'speed work' (not too much emphasis on 'speed') with a pissed off piriformis.

Then, I WILL clean the house and mow, because Sunday involves 18 miles of running followed by watching football while prone with a bag o' peas on my bum.

I hope your weekend's a little more exciting than all that!

Weekend running

Surprisingly, no weekend races for me. Of course, it's hotter than, well, you know what. Instead, I am going to challenge myself a little, shake things up, and save some gas by running to work tomorrow morning, putting in some overtime, and running home when it's blazing hot. Sounds like a blast (right). There shouldn't be any ugly pictures from that, unless I get splattered by a crazy driver. In that case, could whoever catches it on the news post the pic here?

Have a great weekend!
